Dubai Police Elevates Samira Al Ali as First Female Brigadier

In a significant advancement for gender representation within law enforcement in the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Police have promoted Colonel Samira Abdullah Al Ali to the rank of Brigadier. This historic milestone marks her as the first woman to achieve this rank since the establishment of the police force in 1956. With a career that spans over 31 years, Brigadier Al Ali’s promotion symbolizes a powerful narrative of dedication and resilience in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Brigadier Al Ali began her career in 1994 after transitioning from a role in a private insurance and reinsurance company. Her journey into policing was initiated by a newspaper advertisement, prompting her to enroll in the Dubai Police Academy. During her training, her academic background in insurance was recognized by retired Major General Jasim Belramitha, who encouraged her to join the police force’s emerging insurance division. Starting with just a small team in a modest office, she played a crucial role in developing what is now a comprehensive Insurance Department, responsible for managing policies across all police assets.
“No other police agency in the UAE has a dedicated Insurance Department like ours,” Brigadier Al Ali stated, highlighting the unique contributions of her department to the overall operations of the police force, as reported by Khaleej Times. Over the years, she has broken through numerous gender barriers, becoming the first woman to serve at the General Department of Transport and Rescue. In recognition of her contributions, she has received 392 medals, badges, and certificates, and has led various award-winning safety initiatives, including “SAND” and “Safe Driving Stars.”
In her remarks following the promotion, Brigadier Al Ali expressed pride in her achievement, emphasizing its significance for women in the Dubai Police. “This promotion is a source of pride for every woman in Dubai Police,” she said, attributing her success to the organization’s commitment to empowering women. “With faith and effort, everything is possible.”
Brigadier Al Ali’s promotion not only elevates her career but also serves as an inspiration for future generations of women in law enforcement, demonstrating that dedication and hard work can break down barriers.
