Makena White, the 28-year-old girlfriend of PGA Tour professional Jake Knapp, has passed away, prompting an outpouring of tributes and donations in her memory. These contributions have been directed to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic and the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund, both of which held significant importance to White and her family.

White grew up in Canada and attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, before entering the field of medical device sales. Her mother, Crystal White, played an integral role in her life. In 2018, Crystal began receiving care at the Bruyère Clinic and was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. She passed away on April 2, 2022. In a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram, Makena expressed her grief, writing, “01/08/53 – 04/02/22 I hope heaven has a dance floor.”

Throughout her life, White celebrated her bond with her mother, often sharing touching messages on social media. In a tribute for Mother’s Day, she wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to the cutest lil lady out there! Thanks for putting up with me, I seriously have no idea how you do it! LOVE YOU LITTLE DUDE.” This sentiment reflects the deep affection and appreciation she held for her mother, especially during her illness.

A Legacy of Support and Love

The Bruyère Clinic, renowned for its care of individuals and families affected by neurodegenerative conditions, became a cornerstone of support for the family during Crystal’s battle with Alzheimer’s. White also had a close relationship with her father, Mark White. In a touching post for his birthday in 2018, she described him as “the strongest, funniest, most selfless person in the entire world.” A year later, she honored him on Father’s Day with the words, “My hero, my homie, my coach and above all, my best friend. Happy Father’s Day Dad, you & me against the world.”

Tragically, Makena White passed away just days before the Ryder Cup, leaving her boyfriend, Jake Knapp, and her friends heartbroken. The donations made in her memory to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic and the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund are a testament to her legacy and the impact she had on those around her. Knapp, alongside family and friends, has shared heartfelt tributes, reflecting on her vibrant spirit and the love she spread throughout her life.

The community’s response to White’s passing underscores a shared commitment to raising awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease and supporting those affected by it. Donations to the Bruyère Clinic not only honor Makena’s memory but also contribute to vital research and care that can benefit others facing similar challenges. This collective effort serves as a reminder of the profound connections between families and the lasting impact of love and support during difficult times.
