Charkop Kannada Association Hosts 18th Annual Meet, Calls for Unity

The Charkop Kannada Association celebrated its 18th annual mega-meet on September 3, 2023, at the Poisar Gymkhana Hall in Kandivali West. The event, presided over by association president Ravindra M Shetty, focused on the theme of unity as the group prepares for its silver jubilee next year.
In a passionate address, Shetty highlighted the association’s remarkable collective strength and its significant role in fostering growth over the last 25 years. He noted the consistent delivery of distinctive and high-quality programming, reminiscent of the golden era of Tulu-Kannadigas. The success of the events, he stated, is attributed to the cooperation of office bearers, members, and sub-committees.
Celebrating Achievements and Community Spirit
Shetty paid tribute to the guidance and encouragement provided by senior members and well-wishers. He emphasized that the association has always engaged in initiatives close to the community’s heart. Through a range of social, cultural, and educational programs, the association has established itself as a model of Kannada unity, particularly during this joyous silver jubilee celebration.
At the opening of the function, Shetty, along with other office-bearers and trusted committee members, performed the ceremonial lighting of the lamp to inaugurate the gathering. Following this, members of the female contingent sang a soulful prayer song. Prakash M Kotiyan, the honorary general secretary, welcomed attendees warmly.
The gathering also included the presentation and approval of the annual report from the previous year’s meet, as well as the financial statements, which were accepted without objection. Sadashiva C Poojary was appointed as the internal auditor, while Vilas D. Maddi & Co was designated as the external auditor for the upcoming year.
Honoring Academic Excellence
Shetty further highlighted the association’s commitment to academic excellence. In the previous academic year, students who excelled in their exams—including SSC, HSC, graduation, and post-graduation—were honored with awards and stipends. This initiative serves to recognize their achievements and encourage continued scholarly success.
As the association looks forward to its 25th anniversary, Shetty appealed for ongoing support and active engagement from all members and friends, fostering a spirit of unity that has long defined the Charkop Kannada Association.
