Central Government Announces Gallantry Awards for Defence Heroes

The central government of India has issued a Gazette notification that recognizes the bravery of defence personnel through a series of gallantry awards. This announcement, which includes commendations for actions during various operations, highlights the service of those involved in the significant Operation Sindoor.
In total, President Droupadi Murmu has approved 127 Gallantry awards along with 40 Distinguished Service awards for members of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces. The awards reflect the dedication and courage displayed by these individuals in the line of duty.
Among the gallantry awards are four Kirti Chakras, a prestigious recognition for exceptional bravery, and 15 Vir Chakras. Additional accolades include 16 Shaurya Chakras, two Bars to Sena Medals (Gallantry), and 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry). The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force also received recognition, with six Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry) awarded.
Furthermore, the announcement includes the approval of multiple levels of Yudh Seva Medals: seven Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medals, nine Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, and 24 Yudh Seva Medals. These recognitions collectively honor the significant contributions of personnel who have demonstrated outstanding courage under challenging circumstances.
In addition to the gallantry awards, the President has sanctioned 290 Mention-in-Despatches, which serve to acknowledge further exceptional service. This includes accolades for 115 personnel from the Indian Army, five from the Indian Navy, 167 from the Indian Air Force, and three from the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB).
This comprehensive list of awards not only celebrates individual acts of bravery but also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by defence personnel in service to the nation. The recognition of these heroes is a testament to the Indian government’s commitment to honoring those who put their lives on the line for the safety and security of the country.
