BAPS Swaminarayan Temple Illuminates Diwali with Grand Fireworks
The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey, marked the festival of Diwali on October 21, 2025, with an impressive fireworks display that lit up the night sky. This celebration brought together community members, who gathered to honor the festival of lights and welcome the new year, known as Nutan Varsh.
As the fireworks exploded above the temple, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and unity. One social media user shared a video capturing the vibrant scene, stating, “As fireworks filled the air at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, the community came together to celebrate Diwali and welcome Nutan Varsh, carrying with them the joy of the festival and the hope of a new beginning.” The hashtag #Diwali2025 became trending as attendees shared their experiences online.
Connections to Cultural Traditions
In India, similar festivities took place. At the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Delhi, a ritual known as ‘Bahipujan’ was performed on the same day. Dr. Madhvi Gohel, a member of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, emphasized the significance of Diwali. She stated, “Today, the grand festival of Diwali is being celebrated here. With the intention of wishing traders profit and prosperity in their business, we performed Bahipujan to receive the auspicious blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.”
Diwali, often referred to as the festival of lights, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Its roots trace back to the return of Lord Shri Ram to Ayodhya after a 14-year exile. To celebrate his return, the citizens illuminated the city with lamps, a tradition that continues to this day.
The celebrations at the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in New Jersey not only highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Indian community but also showcased the importance of coming together to celebrate shared values and traditions. As the festival of Diwali continues to resonate around the world, events like these serve to strengthen community bonds and keep cultural practices alive.
As the night concluded, the awe-inspiring fireworks served as a reminder of the joy and hope that Diwali brings, marking not just the end of one year but the promising beginning of another.
