Ahmedabad School Faces Backlash After Student’s Fatal Stabbing
A tragic incident occurred at the Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Maninagar, Ahmedabad, where a Class 10 student, Nayan Santani, was fatally stabbed by a junior student. This shocking event has prompted serious allegations against the school administration, particularly regarding their response to the emergency situation.
Parents and local residents have raised concerns that instead of calling an ambulance, school officials opted to summon a water tanker to wash away blood from the scene. This decision has led to accusations of negligence and an alleged attempt to tamper with evidence. The police and the education department have initiated investigations into these claims, focusing on the school’s management actions during the critical moments following the stabbing.
Witnesses reported that Nayan was attacked with a sharp cutter and collapsed on the school premises. Despite the visible severity of his injuries, no staff member or security personnel reportedly called for immediate medical assistance. Instead, it was a classmate who managed to arrange for a rickshaw to transport Nayan to the hospital. By the time help arrived, it was too late, as excessive blood loss had significantly reduced his chances of survival.
A senior police officer emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “There seemed to be gross negligence. Had the student been taken immediately, there was a chance that he could have been saved.” The journey to the hospital took approximately 30 minutes, a delay that has raised further concerns about the school’s protocols in crisis situations.
The police investigation is being led by Additional Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore, who confirmed that the probe will scrutinize why the ambulance was not called promptly. “We are examining why the ambulance was not called and why there was a delay. These aspects will be probed in detail,” he stated.
In addition, Joint Commissioner of Police Sharad Singhal highlighted the seriousness of the allegations concerning evidence tampering. “A forensic team will verify the claim that someone from the school summoned a tanker to clean the crime scene. We will take strict action if this allegation is proven,” he noted.
Preliminary findings from the district education officer’s office indicate that the school administration failed to provide immediate medical assistance. The report stated, “Not calling 108 at the first instance denied the child a chance of life-saving treatment. We will recommend strict action against the administration.”
The community’s outrage has been palpable, with parents expressing their anger outside the school. One parent described the actions taken by the school as “an act of utter negligence,” emphasizing the shocking nature of summoning a tanker before securing medical help.
In response to the backlash, school officials claimed they had attempted to contact emergency services but asserted that the ambulance did not arrive in time. They stated that this forced them to resort to using a rickshaw for transportation. However, numerous witnesses, including students, contradicted this narrative, insisting that no assistance came from school staff during the critical period.
As investigations continue, the community seeks accountability for the tragic loss of a young life and demands answers regarding the actions of the school administration during this devastating incident.
