Young Doctor Advocates for Women’s Advantages After Internship
A young doctor in Kota, India, has sparked significant discussion online after sharing his perspective on women’s health and societal inequalities. Dr. Ritik Maheshwari, who is currently completing his internship in the obstetrics and gynaecology department at a government hospital, expressed his views during a candid video posted on Instagram. The video has amassed over 4.2 million views and more than 2,500 comments in just a few days.
Dr. Maheshwari’s comments came after witnessing a childbirth during his internship, which profoundly impacted his understanding of women’s struggles. He boldly stated, “After doing internship in obgyn, I’ve realised that females deserve more!” His viewpoint challenges the conventional notion of equality, as he argues that “equality shouldn’t even exist in society.”
He elaborated on the unique challenges faced by women, particularly highlighting the physical demands of menstruation and childbirth. According to him, these biological realities put women at a disadvantage compared to men. “Girls can never really be fully healthy; their bodies just can’t be. Sometimes they’re dealing with their periods, and sometimes they’re going through labour,” he explained.
In his video, Dr. Maheshwari remarked on the privileges of being male, saying, “Being a male is an absolute privilege.” He pointed out that while women endure significant physical challenges, men do not face the same fears associated with pregnancy or the ongoing impact of menstruation. He stated, “If out of 30 days in a month, 28 days are menstruation, then girls are spending about 20 days dealing with their periods.”
The reactions to his video have been overwhelmingly supportive, with many users resonating with his message. Comments such as “Finally someone understands” and “We should be forever indebted to all the women in our lives for doing so much for us. There’s no life without women” reflect a growing appreciation for the challenges women face.
Dr. Maheshwari’s perspective has ignited a broader conversation about gender roles and the recognition of women’s experiences in society. His advocacy for acknowledging the unique struggles of women is a call to appreciate the efforts and sacrifices made by them in various aspects of life. As discussions around gender equality continue to evolve, his insights serve as a reminder of the need for empathy and understanding in addressing these complex issues.
