UP Government Establishes Recruitment Board for 3,600 Doctors
The government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant step towards addressing the shortage of specialist doctors in the state by approving the formation of the Uttar Pradesh Specialist Doctor and Medical Education Recruitment Board. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on December 22, 2025. The new board aims to expedite the recruitment process for specialist doctors and medical faculty in government hospitals and medical colleges.
Streamlining the Recruitment Process
Previously, recruitment for government doctors and medical faculty was managed by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. This traditional process often took between one and a half to two years, delaying the appointment of necessary medical personnel. With the establishment of the recruitment board, the government intends to streamline this process, allowing for more timely hiring of qualified specialists.
Currently, there are 3,620 specialist doctor posts available within the health department, of which a requisition for 2,000 vacant positions has already been submitted to the commission. The recruitment board will handle the direct recruitment of these positions, significantly reducing the time taken to fill essential roles in community health centers and district-level hospitals.
Impact on Medical Education
In addition to recruiting doctors, the board will also oversee the hiring of faculty for state medical colleges. This initiative is particularly crucial for newly established medical colleges, which have faced delays in faculty appointments. By centralizing the recruitment process, the government aims to enhance the quality of medical education and healthcare services in the region.
Dr. Amit Singh, General Secretary of the Provincial Medical Service Cadre, expressed his support for the government’s decision. He emphasized the need for the recruitment of Level One MBBS doctors through the new board, which would facilitate the swift appointment of approximately 3,000 vacant Level One posts. This would further strengthen the healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh.
As the state moves to implement these changes, officials and medical professionals alike are hopeful that the new recruitment board will lead to improved healthcare delivery and more robust medical education in Uttar Pradesh.
