MVGRCE Workshop Equips Youth with Essential Mental Health Skills
The Women Empowerment Cell of Maharaj Vijayaram Gajapathi Raj College of Engineering (MVGRCE) in Vizianagaram hosted an impactful workshop on March 15, 2024, titled “Thriving, Not Just Surviving: Youth Mental Health in Modern Times.” The event aimed to empower students with strategies to navigate the complexities of mental health in today’s fast-paced environment.
Attending as a resource person was Gladys Evangeline Raghupatruni, a seasoned counselling psychologist currently associated with Sainik School, Korukonda. Raghupatruni provided valuable insights into practical methods for managing stress and maintaining focus on tasks. Her presentation emphasized the importance of adopting effective time management techniques, practicing mindfulness, and developing a positive outlook when facing challenges.
Raghupatruni strongly encouraged students to implement the strategies discussed during the workshop. She stressed the critical need to prioritize mental well-being, noting that a proactive approach can significantly enhance overall quality of life.
Y M C Sekhar, the principal of MVGRCE, also addressed the attendees, highlighting the significance of maintaining a balanced mindset. He pointed out that many individuals often hesitate to express their feelings, which can lead to increased emotional distress. Sekhar elaborated on the detrimental effects of excessive mobile phone usage, which he argued diminishes meaningful social interactions and contributes to mental health challenges.
The workshop served as a reminder of the growing importance of mental health awareness among youth. As challenges related to academic pressures and social dynamics continue to evolve, equipping students with coping mechanisms is essential.
By focusing on techniques that promote mental resilience, MVGRCE aims to foster a supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and emotionally. The initiative reflects a broader commitment within educational institutions to address mental health proactively, ensuring students have access to the resources they need to succeed.
In conclusion, the workshop not only provided essential skills for managing mental health but also opened up a dialogue about the importance of prioritizing emotional well-being in the current landscape. As students embrace these lessons, they are better positioned to navigate the complexities of modern life with confidence and resilience.
