High Court Halts Gandhi Medical College Manager Recruitment
The High Court of Madhya Pradesh has halted the recruitment process for hospital managers and assistant managers at Gandhi Medical College (GMC) in Bhopal. This decision followed a petition filed by Manohar Singh, who is currently serving as Assistant Hospital Manager at GMC. Singh challenged the rejection of his application for the positions of Hospital Manager, Assistant Hospital Manager, and Deputy Registrar.
The court’s ruling came after Singh argued that the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) had issued a flawed advertisement on October 25, 2019. This initial notice invited applications for multiple roles, including Deputy Registrar, Hospital Manager, Assistant Hospital Manager, and Bio-Medical Engineer. However, all positions were listed under the general category without any reservation for specific groups. A revised advertisement was later published on December 24, 2019, yet it maintained the designation of these posts as unreserved.
Singh contended that the re-advertisement did not provide adequate time for candidates to submit their applications, thereby violating established reservation norms. His legal representative, Senior Advocate Aditya Sanghi, highlighted that Singh was disqualified from the Hospital Manager list (serial no. 11) and the Assistant Hospital Manager list (serial no. 7) due to the absence of a required minimum qualification degree. Despite this, Singh’s name appeared among eligible candidates for the Deputy Registrar position (serial no. 29), but he was not called for an interview.
The High Court, after considering the arguments presented, decided to stay the recruitment process pending further orders. This decision underscores the importance of adhering to recruitment norms and ensuring fair access to job opportunities within public institutions.
As the situation develops, stakeholders within the educational and medical sectors will be closely monitoring the outcome of this legal challenge and its implications for future recruitment practices at GMC and similar institutions across Madhya Pradesh.
