Sumeet Vyas Unveils Complex Role in “Ziddi Ishq” Premiering Today
Actor Sumeet Vyas steps into a challenging new role in the series Ziddi Ishq, which premiered today, November 21, 2023, on JioHotstar. Portraying a morally ambiguous character, Vyas describes his role as emotionally layered and unpredictable. The series delves into intricate themes of love, emotional intensity, and hidden motives, offering viewers a rich narrative experience.
Vyas shared his insights about the character and the creative process during an exclusive interview. He emphasized how his connection to the role took shape immediately upon reading the script. “When you read the first draft of a script, you create your own interpretation of the character,” he explained. However, he noted that the dynamic on set often reshapes those initial impressions. Meeting with the director, Raj, was crucial in understanding the overall vision for the character.
Raj played an instrumental role in guiding Vyas through the complexities of his performance. The actor appreciates the freedom he experienced while working under Raj’s direction. “Raj gives actors a lot of space to experiment,” Vyas said. “Without making it feel heavy or intimidating, he guides with clarity.” This approach, according to Vyas, is invaluable, as Raj brings a wealth of life experience that enriches the portrayal of human behavior.
The emotional depth of the character resonated deeply with Vyas. He expressed a strong affinity for exploring the psychological dimensions of his roles. “I personally enjoy exploring emotional and psychological spaces of characters, so the whole process turned out to be creatively fulfilling,” he remarked.
In discussing the production process, Vyas highlighted how rare it is for a project to exceed initial expectations. He reflected on the common experience where the final product falls short of the script’s promise. “Generally, what happens is that sometimes you read a very good script, but when you go to shoot it, the final product remains only 50 or 60 percent of that potential,” he explained. “Very rarely do you like a script while reading it, and then while shooting, feel like you are actually going beyond what was written. I felt something like that happened during this shoot.”
Ziddi Ishq draws inspiration from the classic Bengali film Parineeta. When asked if he revisited the original film for reference, Vyas stated that he consciously chose not to. “I haven’t seen the original film. I got to know about it after I said yes,” he said. “I deliberately didn’t watch it because I didn’t want to colour my performance. Now, I think it’s a good time to watch it.” He acknowledged the influence of previous actors on his choices, indicating his desire to approach the character independently.
As the show launches, Vyas’s performance is poised to attract significant attention, showcasing his ability to navigate complex emotional landscapes. The exploration of themes such as love and inner turmoil promises to engage audiences and spark discussions.
