Sonakshi Sinha Celebrates 15 Years in Film Industry with New Role

Sonakshi Sinha is marking her 15-year journey in the film industry with the release of her brother’s debut directorial project, Nikita Roy. Contrary to assumptions that her participation stems solely from family ties, Sinha emphasizes that it was the film’s engaging narrative that piqued her interest. She stated, “I went on set thinking we might have our sibling squabbles. It was professional. On set, I was the actor, and he was the director.”
The film, which also stars Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar, centers on an author whose skepticism about the supernatural is challenged by unforeseen events. Originally scheduled for release on June 27, 2023, the launch was delayed to avoid competition with Kajol’s film Maa. Sinha supports this decision, remarking, “This was the producers’ call because, at the end of the day, it’s their money invested. When things are cluttered, there is no point in coming and not getting the shows we expected. It was a wise business decision.”
When questioned about the influence of leading actresses in such decisions, Sinha noted, “It depends from film to film. I can’t speak for others, but I don’t like to get into that space. My work is to be on set, do my job in front of the camera, and go home.”
Over the years, Sinha’s choice of roles has evolved significantly. She has transitioned from starring in mainstream masala films like Dabangg (2010) and R…Rajkumar (2013) to more nuanced, content-driven roles in recent projects such as Dahaad (2023) and the upcoming Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024).
As she anticipates the second seasons of these series, Sinha expresses a desire for challenging roles. “I want anything that is different from what I’ve done before and that challenges me. Those are my checkboxes. You pick and choose from what comes your way. But after doing good work, you’re in a position to say, ‘I deserve better than this’,” she explained.
Reflecting on her career thus far, Sinha stated, “I’ve grown up in front of the camera. It’s been a wholesome journey — the good, the bad, the ugly. The good thing is, Bollywood doesn’t have the power to devastate me because I see my work as a part of life. My whole life doesn’t revolve around it. There’s a lot to life outside of work. So, nothing has the power to devastate me in that way.”
With her evolving career trajectory and a commitment to meaningful storytelling, Sonakshi Sinha continues to carve a distinctive path in the film industry. As she embraces new challenges, her reflections offer insight into the resilience and adaptability required to thrive in the competitive world of cinema.
