Siddhant Chaturvedi Discusses the Challenges of Dhadak 2

Siddhant Chaturvedi has opened up about his experience while filming Dhadak 2, highlighting the challenges he faced in portraying a character from a marginalized background. In a recent interview, Chaturvedi expressed his belief that there is no singular way a person from a specific societal group should look, emphasizing the diversity of experiences shaped by geography and personal journeys.
Chaturvedi, who gained recognition for his roles in Gully Boy and Inside Edge, views his work as a responsibility to represent these stories authentically. “It’s never about fitting into a box. It’s about understanding the world of the character and living it truthfully,” he explained.
Delving Deep into the Character
The actor described Dhadak 2 as one of the most emotionally complex roles he has taken on since his breakout performance in Gully Boy. Chaturvedi prepared for this role by immersing himself in the character’s environment, spending time in villages and interacting with families to grasp the emotional and cultural nuances of his character’s struggle.
“Playing this character forced me to confront those truths head-on. It wasn’t just a role — it became a responsibility,” he stated. The preparation process included physically transforming himself to embody the character’s reality, including tanning his skin naturally and minimizing makeup. He trained to alter his movement and posture to reflect the weight of generations impacted by systemic oppression.
Chaturvedi acknowledged that his understanding of casteism has evolved through this process. While he has not personally faced discrimination, he recognized the silent struggles faced by many. “Stories from friends and people I’ve met during travel have shown me the quiet humiliations and limitations that exist,” he shared.
The Role of Cinema in Social Change
The actor believes in the potential of cinema as a vehicle for social reform, stating that while change may not happen immediately, it can provoke essential conversations. “It can start conversations that people are otherwise afraid to have. That’s powerful,” he noted.
Reflecting on his career, Chaturvedi discussed the challenges he faced in securing roles that truly reflect his talent. He admitted to moments of frustration but emphasized the importance of patience and self-discovery throughout his journey. “I’ve come to understand that this industry — like life — isn’t always fair. Comparison is stolen joy,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Chaturvedi remains focused on choosing challenging roles that push him to grow as an actor. He concluded, “I still feel like I’m only getting started — but every character, every film, has been a stepping stone toward finding my own voice.”
As Dhadak 2 prepares for release, audiences can expect a powerful narrative underscored by Chaturvedi’s dedication to portraying complex social issues with honesty and depth.
