SEVENTEEN Concert Misfire Injures Fans; Organizers Blame Error
A concert by the popular K-pop group SEVENTEEN in Incheon, South Korea, took a dangerous turn on September 13, 2023, when fireworks accidentally misfired into the audience. The incident occurred during the first night of their world tour, attracting over 29,000 attendees. As part of the performance, pyrotechnics were intended to shoot upwards, but several fireworks were mistakenly launched directly towards fans, resulting in multiple injuries.
Eyewitness accounts detail the chaos that unfolded during the performance of “Eyes On You.” One concert-goer expressed concern, stating, “I think they need to readjust the fireworks… If anyone was hit by it, they’d be burned or their eyes could’ve been injured.” Another fan, seated in the N5 area on the second floor, reported being struck by the fireworks, urging others to be careful.
Videos of the incident quickly circulated online, sparking alarm among netizens and raising questions about safety measures at live events. The organizers characterized the incident as a “technical error,” though no official statement has been released by SEVENTEEN’s agency, Pledis Entertainment, as of yet.
Previous Incident Raises Concerns
This troubling event follows a separate incident at a SEVENTEEN concert in Goyang, South Korea, on October 12, 2024. A fire broke out just before the show began, prompting a 20-minute delay for smoke evacuation. Fortunately, no fans were harmed, and the members lightened the mood by joking, “SEVENTEEN and CARATS are so hot, no wonder we had fire in here.”
The recent mishap in Incheon underscores the ongoing challenges of ensuring safety at large-scale events. As the popularity of K-pop continues to soar globally, both fans and event organizers are reminded of the importance of thorough safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
In the wake of the fireworks accident, many fans are left concerned and looking for reassurance regarding their safety at future concerts. The hope remains that organizers will take this incident seriously and implement necessary changes to ensure the well-being of attendees during high-energy performances.
