Mahesh Bhatt Celebrates Nephew Mohit Suri’s Blockbuster Success
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt expressed his pride in the remarkable success of his nephew, Mohit Suri, following the release of the romantic musical Saiyaara. The film, which features actors Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, premiered in theatres in July 2023 and has since shattered numerous box office records, earning praise for reviving the nostalgic essence of romance in Bollywood.
During an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Bhatt remarked, “It makes me so happy. Simba’s roar has outdone Mufasa’s. Nobody in our family has ever delivered a hit this huge.” He emphasized the significance of Suri’s achievement, noting that his nephew is a “completely self-made boy.” Despite this success, Bhatt maintains a humble perspective, reminding Suri that while they may enjoy hits, they could also face failures.
Reflections on Saiyaara and Aashiqui
The comparison between Saiyaara and Bhatt’s iconic film Aashiqui has surfaced in discussions about the evolving landscape of romantic cinema. Bhatt noted that each generation produces its own defining love story. He stated that while Aashiqui was crafted with purity and connected deeply with its audience, Saiyaara has emerged as the romantic film that encapsulates the sentiments of today’s youth.
In Saiyaara, Ahaan Panday portrays Krish Kapoor, a rising rockstar who finds love with a girl struggling with dementia. The film’s touching narrative, along with compelling performances from both leads and its evocative soundtrack, has contributed to its status as a complete cinematic experience.
Box Office Success and Cultural Impact
Since its release, Saiyaara has reportedly garnered an impressive Rs 570 crore globally, positioning it among the highest-grossing films of the year. The combination of its heartwarming story and engaging music has resonated with audiences, creating a cultural moment reminiscent of earlier Bollywood romances.
As Mahesh Bhatt celebrates his nephew’s success, the film industry observes the impact of Saiyaara on contemporary cinematic storytelling. The film’s achievements reflect not only Suri’s talent but also the enduring appeal of romance in film, showcasing how new narratives can resonate with modern viewers while paying homage to the classics.
