Sajjad Lone Accuses NC of Breaking Promises to Job Seekers in J&K
Sajjad Lone, leader of the People’s Conference, has publicly criticized the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) for failing to honor its electoral promise regarding application fees for job seekers. Speaking in the state assembly, Lone highlighted that the JKNC pledged to waive these fees in their election manifesto but has not followed through since taking office.
Lone pointed out that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, confirmed in response to his inquiry that the government has collected ₹31 crore in application fees since October 2022. This collection, according to Lone, underscores the government’s neglect of its promises and adds to the disillusionment among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his statements, Lone referenced the specific commitment made by the National Conference in its manifesto, which stated, “The National Conference government will waive all application fees for job aspirants applying to recruitment agencies such as JKSSRB, JKPSC, and other institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.” He expressed concern over how these unfulfilled commitments negatively impact thousands of unemployed individuals who are already grappling with economic difficulties amid rising job insecurity.
Lone articulated his disappointment, stating, “Instead of reducing the financial burden on our young job seekers, this government has collected crores in the name of application fees. It’s a betrayal of their trust.” He urged the government to acknowledge its failure and apologize to the youth, emphasizing the need for accountability in governance.
The accusations come at a time when many young people in Jammu and Kashmir are struggling to find stable employment. Lone believes that the failure to eliminate application fees not only betrays the trust of job seekers but also reflects a broader issue of unfulfilled promises by the ruling government.
The ongoing discourse has raised questions about the priorities of the local government, particularly in relation to its youth policies. With economic hardships affecting many in the region, the need for transparent and effective governance is more pressing than ever.
