PM Modi Launches ₹9,000 Crore Development Projects in Mizoram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Aizawl, Mizoram, on March 16, 2024. The most notable of these initiatives is the Bairabi-Sairang New Rail Line, which represents a significant advancement in the region’s infrastructure by connecting Mizoram’s capital to the Indian Railways for the first time.
The Bairabi-Sairang rail line, with a budget exceeding ₹8,070 crore, is an engineering achievement that traverses challenging hilly terrain. It features a total of 45 tunnels and 55 major bridges, along with 88 minor bridges. This project is anticipated to enhance connectivity and promote economic development by linking Mizoram more closely to the national railway network.
Upon arriving at Lengpui Airport at 09:10, PM Modi was scheduled to address a public gathering at Lammual Ground in Aizawl. Due to adverse weather conditions, he delivered his address virtually. Present at the event were Mizoram Governor VK Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who supported the virtual proceedings.
In addition to the rail line, PM Modi also flagged off the inaugural Rajdhani Express train service between Aizawl and Delhi. He announced two other train services connecting Sairang with Guwahati and Kolkata, further enhancing the region’s rail connectivity.
The Prime Minister laid foundation stones for several other significant projects, including a 45-km Aizawl Bypass road and a gas bottling plant with a capacity of 30 TMTPA. These projects aim to support infrastructure development and improve the overall quality of life for residents in Mizoram.
Following his visit to Mizoram, PM Modi is set to travel to Manipur’s Churachandpur town and Imphal city. During this trip, he will lay the foundation stones for 14 major projects valued at ₹7,300 crore. These projects include the Manipur Urban Roads and Drainage Project and the Manipur Infotech Development Project.
Preparations are underway in Imphal for the Prime Minister’s visit, featuring a 20-foot welcome gate and fortified routes connecting the airport to Kangla Fort. These developments underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and economic opportunities in the northeastern region of India.
