Laxmi Organic Defends Environmental Practices Amid Allegations
Laxmi Organic Industries Ltd (LOIL) has issued a statement asserting that its facility in Lote Parshuram, located within the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) zone, operates in full compliance with Indian environmental regulations. This announcement comes in response to allegations made by various political parties concerning environmental issues associated with the company’s operations.
LOIL emphasized that recent media comparisons between its Lote facility and those of the now-defunct Italian company Miteni S.p.A are “inaccurate and misleading.” Miteni closed its operations in Italy in 2018 following a trial related to the contamination of water resources. The company had faced significant scrutiny for its production of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (Pfas), commonly known as “forever chemicals,” which have been linked to severe environmental damage and public health risks.
The company clarified that all process emissions and effluents from its Lote facility are treated scientifically and disposed of at a State government-approved facility. LOIL firmly stated that there is no discharge of hazardous effluents into the environment from its operations.
Strict Compliance with Environmental Standards
According to LOIL, the practices witnessed in the Miteni incident, which involved direct discharge of wastewater into local rivers for decades, are not permissible under India’s stringent regulatory framework. The company highlighted that it adheres to rigorous environmental clearances, continuous monitoring, and compliance with strict standards.
The Lote facility employs closed-loop systems designed to prevent the release of harmful substances. Hazardous waste and effluents are directed to a State government-approved common hazardous waste treatment storage disposal facility, where they undergo scientific disposal methods, including incineration. LOIL maintains that it follows standardized procedures for hazardous waste management, ensuring full digital traceability supported by advanced safety systems and high-capacity effluent treatment infrastructure.
Commitment to Transparency and Innovation
The Lote site is characterized as a multi-technology and multi-product facility, producing both fluorinated and non-fluorinated products. These materials are crucial for various industries, including semiconductors, defence, power grids, electric vehicles, medical devices, electronics, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
LOIL reiterated its commitment to producing fluorinated products responsibly, both in India and globally, while emphasizing its dedication to transparency. The company remains engaged with all relevant stakeholders and government authorities to uphold its operational integrity and environmental responsibilities.
In conclusion, Laxmi Organic Industries Ltd stands firm in its assertion that its Lote facility operates without discharging hazardous effluents, showcasing a commitment to environmental safety and regulatory compliance.
