DTC Resumes Inter-State Bus Services After 15 Years
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is set to resume its inter-state bus services on September 23, 2023, after a closure period of fifteen years. At 11:00 AM, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will inaugurate the first bus route from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh. This marks a significant revival of DTC’s inter-city connectivity, with plans to operate buses on 17 routes spanning six states.
Delhi-Baraut will be the first inter-state route to be launched, paving the way for additional services to key locations such as Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Agra, Ayodhya, Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haldwani, Alwar, Jaipur, Bikaner, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Patiala, Jammu, and Panipat. This initiative aims to enhance regional transportation and facilitate easier travel for commuters.
DTC plans to operate fully air-conditioned electric buses on shorter routes of less than 200 kilometers. For longer journeys, CNG buses will be deployed. Initially, three electric buses will serve the Delhi-Baraut route, operating in two shifts—morning and evening. These 12-meter-long buses are designed to provide a comfortable travel experience for passengers.
Introduction of E-Ticketing System
Alongside the launch of inter-state services, DTC will introduce a digital e-ticketing system on September 23. This initiative, also inaugurated by Rekha Gupta, aims to streamline the ticket purchase process for commuters. A trial of the e-ticketing system is already underway at selected depots, including Rajghat.
All bus conductors will be equipped with E-POS machines featuring GPS technology. This enhancement will allow real-time tracking of bus locations, enabling passengers to access updated arrival information through Google Maps. Payments can be made using various mobile wallet options, ensuring a smooth and efficient ticketing experience.
The revival of DTC’s inter-state bus services not only promises to boost regional connectivity but also reflects a commitment to modernizing public transport. With the integration of electric buses and an advanced ticketing system, DTC is positioning itself to meet the growing demand for efficient and sustainable travel options.
