This move, announced during an event at Delhi Haat on November 22, 2025, aims to significantly reduce the air pollution caused by open bonfires during the winter months.

Officials highlighted that the use of electric heaters presents a cleaner and safer alternative to traditional wood-burning practices, which contribute heavily to the city’s deteriorating air quality. At the event, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reinforced the administration’s commitment to tackling pollution, stating that even small measures can lead to substantial improvements in environmental conditions.

At the launch, Gupta called on RWAs to actively monitor and report instances of wood burning, urging residents to refrain from practices that exacerbate pollution. She stated, “We request people not to burn wood anywhere. We also urge RWAs to ensure that no one uses coal and that watchmen receive electric heaters.” The Chief Minister’s remarks underline the necessity of public cooperation for the initiative’s success.

The distribution of electric heaters is supported through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, reflecting a collaborative effort between the government and private entities to address environmental challenges. The Chief Minister noted that the initiative will only achieve its intended impact with robust participation from all stakeholders involved.
