Coimbatore Completes 277 km of Road Works Under ₹200 Crore Initiative

The Coimbatore Corporation has announced the completion of 1,937 road projects, covering a total of 277.13 km, funded by a ₹200 crore allocation from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. This road restoration initiative targets the upgrade of 3,456 damaged and earthen roads, which collectively span 503.67 km. These roads are part of a larger network that encompasses 3,367.87 km across the city’s five zones.
Currently, the Corporation is also progressing on an additional 1,519 works, extending approximately 226.54 km. Officials have been directed to accelerate these projects to ensure timely benefits for residents. The focus remains on enhancing the infrastructure to improve connectivity and safety for the public.
Over the past four years, the Corporation has executed a total of 5,215 road development projects at a cumulative cost of ₹415.06 crore. These projects have covered a significant distance of 860.69 km and were supported by various schemes, including the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Project (TURIP), Nagarpura Salai Mempattu Thittam (NSMT), and special funds from the State Finance Commission (SFC).
On Friday night, key officials, including District Monitoring Officer A.R. Rahul Nath, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, and Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, inspected ongoing road-laying works in Ward 13. During this visit, they reviewed the progress of various other projects, emphasizing the importance of timely completion to enhance the city’s infrastructure.
The efforts to upgrade the road network in Coimbatore reflect a commitment to improving urban infrastructure and ensuring that residents benefit from enhanced connectivity and safety. As these initiatives progress, the Corporation aims to bolster the city’s overall development and livability.
