As New Year celebrations approach, the Bangalore Traders Association has issued a crucial security advisory to its members, anticipating significant foot traffic in key commercial areas of the city. With last-minute shopping in full swing, the association emphasizes the need for heightened vigilance in bustling localities including MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Residency Road, St Marks Road, Commercial Street, and Avenue Road.

City police have outlined specific requirements, urging traders to ensure all CCTV cameras are operational and to install additional cameras in shops where necessary. The advisory mandates that all cameras must be recording and have a minimum archival capacity of 15 days. This move is part of an effort to maintain safety and security during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year.

In addition to technical measures, the association has communicated to staff and store managers the importance of remaining alert and cooperative throughout the evening of December 31, 2023. Traders are expected to fully cooperate with police directives, including adhering to designated timings on New Year’s Eve.

“The safety of our customers, staff, and property is our top priority,” stated Sreesh R Babu, president of the Bangalore Traders Association. “This advisory serves as a standard preventive measure to ensure celebrations remain joyous and incident-free.”

The association has included a diverse range of traders, including jewellers, retailers, and clothiers, in its advisory. Rajesh Bantiya, secretary of the association, highlighted the expected influx of shoppers and reiterated the importance of vigilance. “We are expecting a huge crowd of shopping enthusiasts, and we request everyone to remain alert to prevent any mishaps,” he said.

Moreover, the association has recommended that traders enhance the visual appeal of their outlets through adequate lighting and decorations. The call for improved security measures coincides with ongoing efforts by the city police, who have also issued guidelines aimed at ensuring a safe environment during New Year events.

As the countdown to the New Year begins, the focus remains on fostering a safe and enjoyable experience for all, reinforcing the collective responsibility of traders, staff, and law enforcement in making the celebrations a success.
