The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) in Visakhapatnam, which is expected to serve as a national model for clean energy initiatives. Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand made this declaration on Sunday, highlighting the state’s commitment to innovative energy solutions that support economic growth and sustainable urban development.

Investment and Infrastructure Development

The CoEET will be located at Sagar Nagar, the site of the first Super Energy Conservation Building Code (Super ECBC) building, constructed by the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL). The project received a funding boost of ₹13.5 crore, which includes a ₹5 crore grant from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, part of the Ministry of Power. This initiative was approved during a meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Power Coordination Committee (APPCC), which outlined a collaborative financial strategy involving AP DISCOMs, APGENCO, and APTRANSCO.

Vijayanand noted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has consistently advocated for long-term strategies to enhance power infrastructure, reduce energy costs, and facilitate urbanization and industrial growth. The establishment of CoEET aligns with these objectives by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the clean energy sector.

Future Goals and Collaborative Efforts

The CoEET will function as a registered society, providing a platform for skill development, policy support, and collaborative efforts in clean energy. Prudhvitej Immadi, the Chairman and Managing Director of APEPDCL, emphasized that the center will capitalize on the state’s coastal advantages, abundant renewable energy resources, and robust infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Vijayanand mentioned that the implementation of the Integrated Clean Energy Policy (2024–29) will be a key focus. With support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the Ministry of Power, and other relevant organizations, the policy aims to deliver sustainable energy solutions for future generations.

The establishment of CoEET marks a significant step in Andhra Pradesh’s journey toward becoming a leader in clean energy initiatives, potentially setting a benchmark for other regions in India and beyond.
