3M Showcases Green Innovations at China Wind Power 2025
On October 20, 2025, at the China Wind Power 2025 exhibition in Beijing, 3M, a global leader in diversified technology, unveiled its innovative solutions designed to enhance the wind power industry. Under the theme “With Wind as Wings, 3M Empowers a Green Future,” the company showcased its commitment to sustainable energy through advanced technology and applications that encompass the entire wind power industry chain.
Commitment to Quality and Innovation
The Chinese wind power sector is undergoing significant changes, with a shift in focus from rapid expansion to improving quality and maximizing lifecycle value. As noted by Patrick Chen, Assistant Division Leader of 3M China’s Electrical Markets Division, “The current scale of China’s wind power industry continues to expand, with the industry’s development shifting from speed to a greater emphasis on quality and full lifecycle value.” He added that the focus is increasingly on deep-sea development, large-scale units, and intelligent operations, which demand higher standards for transmission reliability, maintenance efficiency, and personnel safety.
In response to these evolving industry requirements, 3M is leveraging its expertise in materials science and power technology. The company aims to collaborate with local industry partners to foster high-quality development in wind power, thereby supporting China’s transition to a greener energy future.
Innovative Solutions on Display
At the exhibition, 3M highlighted six core innovations tailored for the wind power sector. Among these was the new 72.5kV high-voltage offshore wind power cable terminal connection solution. This product is specifically designed to withstand the challenging conditions of offshore environments, making it suitable for critical applications within wind turbine towers and offshore booster stations.
The comprehensive configurations of this product include plug-in heads, surge arresters, open terminals, and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) terminals. Its exceptional weather resistance allows it to endure harsh conditions, such as salt spray, ultraviolet exposure, and extreme temperature fluctuations. The solution also promises high reliability, maintaining stable insulation and mechanical connections over time, which significantly reduces fault risks and supports large-scale offshore wind power development.
Looking to the future, 3M is dedicated to advancing the wind power industry through ongoing innovation and strategic partnerships. By integrating local research and development capabilities with its extensive global network, the company aims to promote sustained growth in the sector and contribute to China’s dual carbon objectives. Through these efforts, 3M seeks to create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable energy landscape.
About 3M: Founded in 1902, 3M (NYSE: MMM) operates globally to transform industries by applying science and delivering innovative, customer-focused solutions. The company’s multi-disciplinary teams are committed to solving complex challenges by utilizing diverse technology platforms and operational excellence.
