India Challenges Pakistan’s Claims at UNGA, Accuses of Terrorism

India firmly rebutted the assertions made by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his recent address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In response to Sharif’s remarks, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot characterized his speech as “absurd theatrics” and accused Pakistan of promoting terrorism on the global stage.
During the Right of Reply, Gahlot highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding history of harboring terrorists, specifically referencing its sheltering of Osama bin Laden. She pointed out that Pakistan continues to run terror camps, undermining its claims of combating terrorism. Gahlot emphasized that “no degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal facts,” countering Sharif’s assertions regarding military engagements between the two nations.
In his speech, Sharif claimed that Pakistan had downed seven Indian jets during Operation Sindoor, a statement that India categorically dismissed. Gahlot reminded the international community of Pakistan’s support for the Resistance Front, a Pakistan-backed terrorist organization, and its actions at the UN Security Council in April 2023, which she described as an attempt to obscure Islamabad’s duplicity regarding terrorism.
Sharif also lauded former U.S. President Donald Trump for facilitating a ceasefire and accused India of targeting civilians. In contrast, Gahlot reiterated India’s stance that Pakistan is not only exporting terrorism but also fabricating false narratives to divert attention from its own actions.
This exchange at the UNGA reflects the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, with each nation using international platforms to assert its perspective. As the situation evolves, the implications of these statements may influence diplomatic relations in the region and beyond.
