Jaishankar Critiques Western Hypocrisy on Terror at G20 Meeting

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a compelling address at the G20 summit in New York, where he criticized the West for its perceived hypocrisy regarding terrorism. He specifically called out Pakistan for its role in fostering terror, emphasizing that combating terrorism is essential for global peace and development. Jaishankar’s remarks served as a reminder to the international community that the fight against terror is not just a national concern but a global imperative.
Jaishankar referenced Operation Sindoor, highlighting India’s commitment to counter-terrorism efforts. He articulated that successful counter-terror operations not only bolster national security but also contribute to regional stability. The minister urged countries to adopt a united front against terrorism, advocating for a stance of zero tolerance that transcends borders.
The minister’s criticism extended to the impact of sanctions, which he argued can disrupt global supply chains and increase costs, disproportionately affecting vulnerable economies in the Global South. He pointed out that such measures, often employed by Western nations, can lead to unintended consequences that undermine economic stability and development in less affluent regions.
In his address, Jaishankar stressed the importance of fostering dialogue, diplomacy, and multilateralism as foundational strategies for achieving lasting peace. He suggested that nations should move away from double standards in their approach to terrorism and instead work collaboratively towards a comprehensive solution. According to him, only through concerted efforts can the international community build a sustainable future that benefits all.
As the G20 continues to address pressing global issues, Jaishankar’s remarks underscore a critical discourse on terrorism and the need for a unified response that prioritizes stability and development. His call for a more equitable approach to international relations resonates as countries grapple with the complexities of security, economic resilience, and humanitarian concerns.
