VELS University Awards Over Rs. 12.8 Crores in Scholarships

The VELS Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS) marked a significant milestone during its annual Vels Success Day 2024-25, distributing scholarships worth Rs. 12.8 Crores to 5,362 students. This initiative showcases the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence across a range of disciplines, including Engineering, Pharmacy, Law, Maritime Studies, and Aviation.
Support for Diverse Student Backgrounds
During the event, students received scholarship certificates from Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, Founder-Chancellor, and Dr. Preethaa Ganesh, Vice President of the VELS Group of Institutions. In addition to the general scholarship distribution, the university extended full tuition fee reimbursements to 1,915 students through various State and Central Government Scholarship schemes.
The scholarship program at VELS University includes several categories, such as Chancellor Scholarships, Alumni Scholarships, Merit Scholarships, Sports Scholarships, and First-Generation Graduate Scholarships. These offerings reflect a dedication to ensuring that financial limitations do not impede students’ academic aspirations.
As students were recognized for their academic accomplishments, the event served as both a celebration and an inspiration for continued excellence. Dr. Preethaa Ganesh emphasized the importance of discipline, hard work, and integrity, urging students to make excellence a lifelong habit. She highlighted the growing trend in scholarship recipients, challenging students to aim higher and reminding them that “excellence is a continuous process.”
A Vision for Future Growth
Founder-Chancellor Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh shared his vision of doubling the number of scholarship recipients in the upcoming year. He expressed his willingness to support all 18,000 students at the university if they excel in their fields, stating his commitment to investing in bright minds. He acknowledged the role of Dr. Preethaa Ganesh as a driving force behind initiatives like Vels Success Day, which inspire students throughout the university.
Established in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, VELS University has gained recognition as one of Chennai’s premier deemed-to-be universities. With over 18,000 students and 1,100 faculty members, it offers more than 100 programs across undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines, encompassing Medicine, Engineering, Law, Pharmacy, Nursing, and more.
VELS University is recognized by multiple bodies including the UGC, AICTE, NMC, and has been awarded NAAC A++ accreditation. The university’s commitment to academic excellence is further validated by its placement in the 2024 NIRF rankings, where it was positioned in the 101-150 band overall, with the Pharmacy discipline ranked 61st.
