Aparna Pandey’s ‘Shridha’ Exhibition Unveils Art’s Emotional Depth

Gallery FPH in Mumbai is showcasing a vibrant new exhibition titled “Shridha – Colours & Stories” by artist Aparna Pandey. Running from September 16 to 30, 2025, the exhibition features a blend of mythology, tradition, and personal reflection, inviting visitors to explore the intricate tapestry of human experience through art.
A Personal Tribute Through Art
The title “Shridha” holds special significance for Pandey, as it is a heartfelt tribute to her daughters, Shriya and Shraddha. “The exhibition is special to me because it is also presented under Shridha, which is named after my daughters. Their values of love, creativity, and thoughtfulness inspire me constantly,” she shared. This personal connection infuses her work with a balance of familial love and cultural heritage.
Each piece in the exhibition is a conversation starter, bridging the gap between ancient myths and contemporary life. “My paintings move across mythology, heritage, and everyday moments of life. They are also about different types of expression—intimate, playful, reflective, and celebratory,” Pandey explained.
Art Inspired by Tradition and Emotion
Aparna Pandey draws heavily from India’s rich folk traditions, utilizing their vibrant visual language and symbolism while introducing her own emotional depth. “I am inspired by India’s folk traditions, which hold so much beauty and depth. At the same time, I paint from personal feelings—stillness, joy, or reflection,” she noted. This unique blend creates a dynamic dialogue on her canvases.
Her artistic journey took a significant turn during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2021 when she rediscovered her passion for art. Starting with mandalas, she gradually expanded her repertoire to include folk traditions such as Pattachitra, Phad, and Madhubani. “It has been three years of rediscovering an old passion,” she reflected, illustrating her rapid evolution as an artist.
Among the standout works featured in “Shridha” are:
- Krishna on Kandarp Ashwa: This painting, inspired by Odisha’s Pattachitra style, depicts Krishna surrounded by gopis in Raasleela. The intricate lines celebrate divine love, transforming playful mythology into timeless devotion.
- Whispers of Compassion: Rooted in Buddhist lore, this artwork captures Green Tara, the swift protector. Its gentle greens and earthy tones evoke a sense of calmness and renewal, drawing viewers into a meditative experience.
- Ardhanareeshwar – The Divine Fusion: Painted in Kerala mural style, this piece represents the union of Shiva and Parvati, symbolizing balance and harmony between strength and grace.
These works exemplify Pandey’s ability to weave cultural traditions with her personal artistic sensibility, creating a rich visual narrative that resonates with a wide audience.
For Pandey, “Shridha” extends beyond mere art display; it serves as an invitation for visitors to engage with her personal journey. “I hope each visitor finds a moment that speaks to them,” she remarked, emphasizing the exhibition’s goal of fostering connection through art.
As guests enter Gallery FPH over the next two weeks, they are not just witnesses to an exhibition but participants in a dialogue that intertwines tradition, emotion, and rediscovery.
