In a robust defense of his administration’s foreign engagements, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin responded to criticism from former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding the effectiveness of his recent overseas trips. Speaking to reporters at Chennai Airport on Saturday, as he prepared for a week-long visit to Germany and the United Kingdom, Stalin emphasized that his trips have resulted in tangible agreements, unlike those made during Palaniswami’s tenure.

Stalin outlined the success of his foreign tours, which have included visits to the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Spain, Singapore, and the United States. He highlighted the signing of a total of 36 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), which are projected to create jobs for 30,037 people and attract investments worth Rs. 18,498 crore to Tamil Nadu. Notably, during his visit to the United States, 19 MoUs were signed, with additional agreements signed in Spain (3), Japan (7), the UAE (6), and Singapore (1).

Significant Upcoming Engagements

Stalin also mentioned his upcoming participation in a significant event at Oxford University. On September 4, 2023, he will unveil a portrait of the influential rationalist, Thanthai Periyar, at the ‘Self-Respect Movement Centenary Conference’. He described this occasion as a “Historic Event” for Tamil Nadu.

Addressing questions regarding his recent visit to Bihar, where he participated in a rally against vote theft, Stalin expressed confidence in the resilience of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. He stated, “No matter what conspiracies are attempted, Tamil Nadu has the strength to overcome them,” asserting that the actions of the Election Commission in Bihar have galvanized public awareness.

When asked about the recently formed party by actor and politician Vijay, who aims to challenge the DMK in the 2026 elections, Stalin downplayed the significance of the rival party, suggesting that the DMK’s actions will speak louder than words. He conveyed that regardless of new party formations, the DMK continues to attract new voters.

Stalin’s remarks reflect a commitment to fostering international partnerships while bolstering Tamil Nadu’s economic prospects, showcasing a proactive approach to governance amid political opposition.
