Russia Warns E3 Nations Over Iran Sanctions, Calls Them Illegal

Russia has issued a strong warning regarding the reimposition of sanctions on Iran, stating that such actions could lead to “irreparable consequences.” This warning follows the decision by the United Kingdom, France, and Germany—collectively known as the E3—to restore sanctions due to Iran’s non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal.
In a statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the E3’s actions as “illegal and unjustified,” asserting that they undermine diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing tensions. Moscow’s criticism highlights its support for Tehran and its partnership with Iran in the context of the nuclear agreement.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran is collaborating with both China and Russia to develop joint measures in response to the potential United Nations “snapback” of sanctions. This collaboration reflects Iran’s commitment to resist pressure from Western nations, particularly in light of the increasing tensions surrounding its nuclear program.
Earlier this week, Iranian officials indicated that they might consider halting negotiations with European nations altogether. The E3 nations maintain that Iran has deviated from its commitments under the nuclear deal, emphasizing the need for renewed dialogue to address these concerns.
The situation remains critical, as France and the United Kingdom reiterated their calls for Iran to engage in constructive discussions regarding its nuclear activities. The potential for diplomatic resolution hangs in the balance, with both sides entrenched in their positions.
Overall, the return of sanctions by the E3 has escalated tensions between Iran and the West, prompting Russia to take a firm stance in support of Iran’s position. The unfolding events could significantly impact future diplomatic efforts and regional stability, marking a pivotal moment in international relations concerning nuclear proliferation and security.
