TVS Motor Company has officially launched the new Orbiter electric scooter in India, priced at ₹99,900 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, including subsidy). This model is positioned as the brand’s most affordable electric scooter and aims to cater to utility-oriented consumers.
The Orbiter features a 3.1 kWh battery that delivers a claimed range of up to 158 kilometers on a single charge. It is powered by a hub-mounted BLDC motor with a peak output of 2.5 kW (approximately 3.3 bhp). Riders can choose between two ride modes: Eco and City. The scooter accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in just 6.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 68 km/h.
Design and Features
The Orbiter adopts a minimalist and boxy design, characterized by a large body panel that extends from the front apron to the tail. At the front, an LED headlight is positioned above the apron, complemented by a LED light strip that spans the entire width of the front fascia. Customers can select from six color options: Neon Sunburst, Stratos Blue, Lunar Grey, Stellar Silver, Cosmic Titanium, and Martian Copper.
The scooter rides on 14-inch front wheels and 12-inch rear wheels, featuring drum brakes at both ends. Its ground clearance measures 169 mm, and the overall weight is 112 kg. The seat length is reported to be 845 mm, coupled with a 290 mm straight-line flat footboard for improved rider comfort. Additionally, the under-seat storage capacity is a generous 34 liters, reportedly able to accommodate two helmets.
Technology and Connectivity
In terms of technology, the Orbiter is equipped with a 5.5-inch color LCD that supports smartphone connectivity. Key features include crash and fall alerts, anti-theft notifications, geo-fencing, time-fencing, incoming call alerts, and turn-by-turn navigation. The scooter also supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring that users can enjoy the latest software enhancements without needing to visit a service center.
With its practical design and technology-packed features, the TVS Orbiter aims to attract a wide range of electric scooter users in India, combining affordability with functionality. As the market for electric vehicles continues to grow, the Orbiter’s launch marks a significant step for TVS in expanding its electric lineup.
