AirAsia Warns Passengers of Flight Disruptions for National Day

AirAsia has issued a travel advisory ahead of Malaysia’s upcoming celebrations for its 68th National Day on September 16, 2023. The advisory highlights temporary closures of Kuala Lumpur airspace during the National Day flypast and rehearsals, which will impact flight operations between August 26 and 31, 2023.
The closures are set to occur from 11:00 to 12:00 on August 26 to 28 and from 08:45 to 09:45 on August 29 and 31. This action is mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), which stated that the measures are necessary to ensure the safety of the public as well as the aircraft involved in the celebrations.
Passengers should anticipate increased air traffic and potential adjustments to commercial flight schedules during this period. AirAsia recommends that travellers plan ahead and use the AirAsia MOVE app to stay informed about their flight status. The app allows users to check in from 14 days up to one hour before departure, upload visa documents, and access e-boarding passes.
Travel Guidelines and Recommendations
For those requiring special assistance, such as wheelchair services, AirAsia advises pre-booking at least four hours prior to departure. Counter check-in will be limited to specific groups, including passengers with reduced mobility, infants under 24 months, pregnant women, senior citizens, and unaccompanied minors.
To facilitate smooth travel, passengers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Baggage procedures have also been streamlined; passengers can tag their luggage via kiosks using QR codes. Each passenger is allowed one cabin bag (maximum dimensions of 56 x 36 x 23 cm) plus a laptop or handbag, with a combined weight limit of 7 kg.
Malaysian passport holders can expedite their immigration process by using the ‘MyBorderPass’ app at KLIA Terminal 2. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency during the busy travel period surrounding the National Day events.
AirAsia’s advisory underscores the importance of preparation for passengers amid the heightened activity surrounding Malaysia’s National Day celebrations. By staying informed and following the airline’s recommendations, travellers can ensure a smoother journey during this festive time.
