GTU Hosts Lecture on Integrating Indian Knowledge in Education

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) held the Bharat Tirth Lecture on August 21, 2025, at its Chandkheda campus. The lecture focused on the theme of “Integration of Indian Knowledge System in Technical Education.” This event, part of the Dharohar – Bharatiye Gyan Parampara Kendra initiative, attracted significant participation from faculty, staff, and students.
The keynote address was delivered by Atul Kothari, the National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas. Kothari emphasized the importance of incorporating Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into contemporary technical education. He discussed the vision laid out by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting India’s historical contributions to fields such as science, technology, mathematics, metallurgy, medicine, and architecture.
Kothari underscored how traditional wisdom could lead to innovative solutions in today’s academic and industrial environments. He stressed the need for a curriculum that not only integrates IKS but also promotes value-based education, research, and innovation. His insights pointed to a broader understanding of education that balances technical skills with cultural and ethical awareness.
GTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rajul K. Gajjar, reinforced the university’s commitment to advancing IKS within its academic framework. He noted that the integration of these systems ensures that students are not only prepared for industry demands but also remain culturally connected and socially responsible.
The session also included contributions from Dr. K.N. Kher, the Registrar of GTU, and senior faculty members. The enthusiastic response from attendees reflected GTU’s vision of merging technological advancement with a strong foundation in traditional knowledge.
This lecture serves as a significant step toward reshaping technical education in India, promoting a holistic approach that values both modern and ancient wisdom. As educational institutions increasingly recognize the importance of cultural roots in developing future leaders, GTU’s initiative stands out as a model for integrating diverse knowledge systems into education.
