DPS Azad Nagar Reaches Finals of Inter-School Cricket Tournament

DPS Azad Nagar has successfully advanced to the finals of the Late Atmaram Agarwal inter-school cricket tournament, emerging as a standout team from Group B. The decisive match took place at the TSH ground in Kanpur, where DPS Azad Nagar secured a convincing victory against Guru Har Rai Academy by a margin of 53 runs.
Batting first, DPS Azad Nagar posted a formidable total of 186 runs for 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Guru Har Rai Academy could only muster 133 runs within their 20 overs. Shreshtha Yadav’s performance earned her the title of man of the match for her pivotal contributions.
In another exciting match from Group D, DPS Kalyanpur demonstrated their strength after being put into bat. They scored 148 runs for 8 wickets and defeated Pratap International School by an impressive 86 runs. Notably, Aman Chaudhary was recognized as the man of the match for his exceptional bowling, taking five wickets for just 11 runs.
Methodist School Shines in Cricket Matches
Methodist School also made headlines by defeating DPS Unnao by a significant margin of 134 runs. Batting first, Methodist School set a challenging target, scoring 194 runs in just 15 overs. Kanishk stood out with an explosive innings, scoring 91 runs off 38 balls. DPS Unnao struggled in their chase, collapsing to 60 runs. Ayush and Yatharth Pandey were instrumental in their victory, taking four and three wickets respectively, while Kanishk was awarded the man of the match.
Apart from cricket, the third Cosco Kanpur District Senior Badminton Championship concluded with exciting matches. Rishabh and Shreyanshi claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles. In the men’s final, Rishabh overcame Pratham Singh after losing the first game, rallying back to win with scores of 21-19 and 21-18. He later teamed up with Akhilesh Kumar to clinch the men’s doubles title, defeating Amritmay Vishwas and Brajmani Singh with scores of 21-12 and 21-13.
Shreyanshi Ranjan triumphed over Anukriti Tandon in the women’s singles final, winning in three games with scores of 15-21, 21-14, and 21-16. Together with Priya Dwivedi, she secured the women’s doubles title, defeating Ishika Srivastava and Janhvi Saluja, both games ending with scores of 21-9. Meanwhile, Prakrati Mehrotra emerged victorious in the 35+ category, beating Nidhi Kanodia with scores of 21-16 and 21-19.
Upcoming Selection Trials for Hockey and Badminton
Looking ahead, selection trials for district and divisional level teams for the state-level women’s hockey championship will be held at Green Park on August 19, 2023. The selected team will compete in the state championship scheduled for August 21 to 23, 2023, in Lucknow. Additionally, trials for the women’s badminton team will take place at Green Park on August 20, 2023, with the aim of participating in the state-level championship in Ayodhya from August 25 to 26, 2023. Athletics trials are also set for August 21, 2023.
These sporting events highlight the vibrant and competitive spirit of schools in the region, fostering talent and teamwork among young athletes.
