PM Modi Celebrates Maldives’ 60th Independence Day in Male

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives on March 17, 2024, serving as the esteemed ‘Guest of Honour’. His visit marked a significant occasion for the island nation, where he participated in the festivities alongside Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, the First Lady, and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
The ceremony took place in the capital city of Male, where Prime Minister Modi received a formal Guard of Honour before engaging with senior officials from the Maldivian government. This diplomatic visit underscores the strong ties between India and the Maldives, highlighting ongoing cooperation in various sectors.
Following the independence celebrations, Prime Minister Modi concluded his two-day visit to the Maldives. He departed for Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, where he is scheduled to inaugurate several infrastructure projects on March 18, 2024. These initiatives are expected to further enhance the region’s development and strengthen India’s commitment to fostering growth in neighboring countries.
Modi’s participation in the Maldives’ independence festivities reflects India’s strategic interest in maintaining robust diplomatic relations in the Indian Ocean region.
