NALSA Launches ‘Veer Parivar’ Yojana to Aid Soldiers’ Families

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) officially launched the ‘Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025’ in Srinagar on July 26, 2025. This pioneering initiative aims to provide essential legal support to the families of Indian soldiers serving in remote and high-risk areas. The unveiling ceremony was led by Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of NALSA and the future Chief Justice of India, and was attended by significant dignitaries including Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The core message of the scheme is straightforward yet impactful: “You serve the nation at the border, we will stand by your family at home.” This initiative was conceived in response to the emotional aftermath of Operation Sindoor, showcasing Justice Surya Kant’s dedication to alleviating the burden of unresolved legal matters that can weigh heavily on soldiers while they are on duty.
Addressing Legal Challenges for Military Families
Under the ‘Veer Parivar’ Yojana, NALSA will take proactive measures to resolve various legal issues faced by the families of defence personnel and paramilitary forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This includes handling disputes related to family property, domestic conflicts, land issues, and numerous other legal challenges.
Soldiers often find themselves stationed in isolated locations where access to legal support is limited. Additionally, they frequently lack the opportunity to attend court hearings or manage personal legal affairs. The ‘Veer Parivar’ Yojana seeks to bridge this gap by ensuring that families receive proper legal representation throughout India.
The launch of this scheme has been widely praised as a significant step towards alleviating the personal pressures that military personnel face. It reinforces the judiciary’s commitment to supporting those who serve the nation and acknowledges the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.
A Commitment to Support
The initiative reflects a broader understanding of the challenges faced by military families, particularly in times of crisis or when soldiers are deployed in high-stress environments. By providing legal assistance, NALSA aims to offer peace of mind to families, allowing soldiers to focus on their duties without the added worry of unresolved legal issues back home.
This historic move not only highlights the importance of legal aid for military families but also marks a significant moment in the relationship between the judiciary and the armed forces. As the ‘Veer Parivar’ Yojana begins to take effect, it is expected to set a precedent for similar initiatives in the future, reinforcing the support for those who protect the nation.
