BEST Announces Extra Bus Services for New Year’s Eve Celebrations
In a bid to enhance public transport for New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has announced additional bus services across Mumbai on the night of December 31, 2025. This initiative aims to facilitate smooth and convenient travel for residents and visitors heading to popular festivities.
The extra bus services will focus on key routes frequented by commuters traveling to renowned tourist spots, including the Gateway of India, Juhu Chowpatty, Gorai Creek, and Marve Chowpatty. These locations typically experience significant foot traffic during the celebrations.
Expanded Services for Late-Night Travel
BEST will operate special bus services from 22:00 to 00:30 to accommodate late-night travelers. In addition to regular routes, including No. C-86, 203, and 231, the transport authority will provide air-conditioned services on routes No. A-21, A-112, A-116, A-247, A-272, and A-294.
For those interested in cultural experiences, the popular Heritage Tour bus service will also run on New Year’s Eve. This service will commence at 17:30 on December 31, 2025, and extend into the early hours of January 1, 2026, depending on passenger demand.
The transport department has encouraged citizens to utilize public transport during the festivities to avoid traffic congestion and ensure a safe commute. In an official statement, BEST said, “We appeal to passengers to take advantage of the additional bus services being operated on the above-mentioned routes for their convenience on the night of December 31, 2025.”
Annual Preparations and Network Overhaul
This initiative is part of BEST’s annual preparations to manage increased travel demand during major festivals and celebrations in Mumbai. Earlier in November, BEST announced a significant overhaul of its bus network, introducing new routes and modifying existing ones. Some air-conditioned services will transition to regular buses to improve inter-suburban connectivity and alleviate congestion at bus depots.
According to BEST officials, these changes aim to provide smoother travel options between major residential and commercial areas, ultimately enhancing the overall public transport experience in Mumbai. The adjustments reflect BEST’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its passengers, especially during peak travel periods.
