A 41-year-old businessman, identified as Kishan Shetty, died by suicide on Saturday morning after jumping in front of a moving train at Nayandahalli Junction on Mysuru Road in Bengaluru. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 08:30 when Shetty stepped onto the railway tracks just as a train was approaching, resulting in his death on the spot.

According to the City Railway Police, railway staff who witnessed the event promptly alerted authorities. Following the incident, the body was transported to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case of unnatural death based on a complaint filed by Shetty’s wife.

Shetty, originally from Brahmavar in Udupi district, had been living in Vijayanagar with his wife and two daughters. Preliminary investigations indicated that he was the owner of a logistics business, which had encountered severe financial difficulties. Reports suggest that Shetty had previously lodged a complaint with the Govindarajanagar police, alleging that business partners had defrauded him of nearly Rs 60 lakh (approximately $72,000).

These financial troubles reportedly contributed to Shetty’s deteriorating mental health. Investigators revealed that he had attempted suicide earlier at the Yeshwantpur railway track but was rescued by passersby. The ongoing stress from his financial situation may have ultimately compelled him to take this drastic action. Notably, police have stated that no suicide note was found at the scene.

The case highlights the growing concerns surrounding mental health and financial stress among professionals in the region. The Greater Bengaluru IT Companies and Industries Association has called for strategic planning to address the increasing challenges faced by businesses and individuals in the city.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, the community is urged to engage in open discussions about mental health resources and support systems to help those in distress.
