Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a renewed commitment to merit-based recruitment in government positions during a ceremony on October 23, 2023. The event, held at the Muktadhara Auditorium, focused on the distribution of appointment letters for Physical Education Teachers and Special Educators. This initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to enhance transparency in recruitment processes across various sectors.

During his address, CM Saha emphasized that the current administration prioritizes transparency, stating, “No one can now claim that political affiliation is required to secure a government job. If one has the qualifications, it is definitely possible to get a job.” He highlighted that the government has appointed 20,181 individuals across departments, including those replacing employees who have died in harness. Notably, 6,998 appointments were made within the Education Department for positions such as Post Graduate Teachers (PGT), Graduate Teachers (GT), and Upper Graduate Teachers (UGT).

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s goal to improve the quality of education in Tripura. He remarked, “Our aim is to ensure that students receive quality education in a friendly and supportive environment.” Saha expressed confidence in the newly appointed educators, indicating that their professionalism is a testament to their qualifications.

In addition to recruitment efforts, CM Saha spoke about the implementation of several initiatives under the National Education Policy, which was introduced under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These initiatives aim to revitalize India’s traditional educational values. He noted that over 5,000 individuals have been appointed through contractual and outsourcing processes, reflecting the state’s commitment to educational reform.

The Chief Minister detailed various programs aimed at enhancing education in Tripura, including Nipun Tripura, CM Saath, Mission Mukul, and Saharsha. He also mentioned the transformation of 125 schools into Vidya Jyoti institutions and 84 schools into PM-Shri schools. A key initiative, the CM Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana, has been launched to empower girl students in the state.

Tripura’s higher education landscape has expanded significantly, with the establishment of three MBBS colleges, along with nursing, ANM, and GNM colleges. The state is also home to colleges for agriculture, fishery, and veterinary studies, as well as institutions like the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), National Law University, and National Forensic Science University. Saha reported that under the Target Project, ten candidates have received assistance to prepare for national-level examinations.

During the event, a total of 102 Physical Education Teachers and 55 Special Educators were officially handed their appointment letters. In a symbolic gesture, CM Saha personally presented letters to several recruits. Senior officials from the state’s education sector, including Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of Education, and NC Sharma, Director of School Education, were present to witness the ceremony.

The Tripura government continues to prioritize educational reforms and transparent recruitment processes, aiming to foster a robust educational environment that meets the needs of its students and communities.
