HDMC Initiates Major Upgrade for Chitaguppi Hospital Services
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) plans to significantly enhance healthcare services at Chitaguppi Hospital in Hubballi, India. This initiative involves procuring advanced medical equipment aimed at improving patient care and health checkups, especially in the surgical department and specialized services such as urology and Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) care.
This upgrade, estimated to cost over ₹1 crore, is part of a broader strategy to modernize the hospital’s capabilities. HDMC officials believe that acquiring state-of-the-art equipment will not only boost diagnostic and treatment services but also attract skilled medical professionals. The proposal for this investment will be presented at the upcoming HDMC general body meeting on November 26, 2023, which will be crucial in determining the hospital’s future direction.
Chitaguppi Hospital currently serves as a vital healthcare facility, with a capacity of 100 beds. It manages around 150 deliveries, performs over 150 major and minor surgeries, and accommodates more than 10,000 outpatient visits each month. The facility also conducts approximately 5,000 laboratory tests monthly. The hospital has successfully performed over 1,000 surgeries utilizing advanced laparoscopic techniques since 2021.
Dr. Sridhar Dandappanavar, a health official with HDMC, highlighted the pressing need for additional medical equipment. He noted that the hospital currently relies on a single laparoscopic machine, which has created an urgent demand for another unit. Furthermore, the hospital requires specialized tools to effectively manage infections and enhance diagnostic capabilities in ENT and during urology and kidney procedures.
Dr. Dandappanavar detailed the specific requirements, stating, “We need one laparoscopic unit with a high-definition or 4K camera system, an LED light source, fibre optic cables, a medical-grade 27-inch monitor, a complete set of laparoscopic hand instruments, and necessary supportive equipment such as an E20 mini sterilizer, a microscope, an essential ENT microscope, a ventilator, and an anaesthesia workstation.”
By focusing on these enhancements, HDMC aims to address the increasing healthcare demands of the Hubballi-Dharwad area. The approval of this proposal would represent a significant step towards transforming Chitaguppi Hospital into a more efficient and patient-centered healthcare institution, ensuring residents have access to high-quality medical services.
