Passengers Alert Authorities to Possible Fraud in Train Ticket Sales
Passengers traveling to popular destinations in Kerala for the upcoming Christmas holidays have expressed serious concerns over potential fraud in train ticket sales. Many found themselves on waiting lists or received regret messages shortly after attempting to book tickets online, raising alarms about the integrity of the booking system.
One passenger reported attempting to secure a seat on the Chennai Central-Alleppey (Alappuzha) Express to Thrissur, only to discover they were placed 120th on the waiting list just two minutes and 48 seconds after initiating the booking process. Other trains, including the Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram Mail and the Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram Super Fast Express, saw tickets sell out almost instantly, further fueling suspicions among travelers.
Allegations of Bulk Booking Software
Many passengers allege that fraudulent travel agencies are utilizing software to make rapid bulk bookings, effectively blocking genuine travelers from securing seats. The situation has prompted frustration, as numerous individuals reported never having experienced a ticketing system where availability vanished within such a short period.
Even those who visited railway counters early in the morning found themselves unable to obtain tickets. A number of travelers who turned to agencies reported success in securing their bookings, leading to calls for an investigation into the sudden unavailability of seats on heavily trafficked routes. Passengers are demanding accountability and transparency from the authorities.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has previously apprehended individuals involved in bulk ticket booking schemes. However, officials acknowledge that the issue continues to be a significant challenge. Southern Kerala routes are particularly congested, with reports indicating that Tatkal tickets—often used for urgent travel—are being booked within one to two minutes of becoming available.
Limited Options for Travelers
In light of these difficulties, passengers have noted that the only relief currently available comes from special trains that are operating to accommodate the high demand. As the Christmas holidays approach, the urgency for effective solutions increases, and travelers remain hopeful that authorities will take swift action to investigate and address these alarming concerns.
The situation highlights the need for stronger measures to protect consumers in the travel sector, particularly during peak travel times. As the Railway Protection Force continues its efforts to combat fraudulent activities, passengers await reassurances that they can secure legitimate bookings without fear of missing out.
