Over 600 Participants Honor 1962 War Heroes at Ziro Run

The Ziro Honour Run 2025 took place on October 20 in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, with over 600 participants celebrating the bravery of soldiers from the 1962 Indo-China War. Organized by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Lower Subansiri District Administration, the event showcased a strong sense of community and patriotism, drawing men, women, and children of all ages, along with members of the armed forces.

Participants had the option to choose from three race categories: 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km. Prizes were awarded to the top finishers in each segment, adding to the competitive spirit of the day. The event culminated in a ceremony attended by Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, who served as the chief guest.

Celebrating Endurance and National Pride

In his address, Governor Parnaik praised the initiative, calling it “not just a race but a symbol of endurance, trust, mutual respect, and love for the country.” He emphasized the importance of fitness and moral discipline, stating, “A healthy nation is built not only by champions but by every healthy citizen.” The Governor encouraged the youth to reject alcoholism and drug abuse, advocating for education and a disciplined lifestyle as the foundations of a resilient society.

The Ziro Honour Run was part of a broader series of commemorative events, which included the Shaurya Motorcycle Rally, held from October 14 to 17. This four-day rally spanned the distance from Likabali Military Station in Lower Siang to the Neelam Tebi War Memorial in Keyi Panyor district, further paying homage to the soldiers who fought valiantly in 1962.

Families of fallen heroes, specifically the relatives of Martyr Rifleman Neelam Tebi and Havildar Shere Thapa, were honored during the event, recognizing their ultimate sacrifices for the nation. The emotional tribute highlighted the personal stakes involved in the conflict and allowed the community to connect with the legacies of these brave individuals.

Community Engagement and Cultural Unity

The event was not solely about the runs and tributes; it featured vibrant cultural performances from the Apatani, Gorkha, and Sikh communities. Spectators enjoyed martial arts demonstrations by Army personnel, which showcased the discipline and unity among the various groups present.

Among the attendees were local dignitaries, including Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa, Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra, as well as senior administrative officials and numerous local residents.

The Ziro Honour Run 2025 successfully reaffirmed the deep bond between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the Indian Army, embodying a celebration of patriotism, unity, and civil-military camaraderie. The impressive turnout and enthusiastic participation from the community underscored the significance of honoring those who have served the nation, while also promoting a culture of health and discipline among the youth.
