In a significant development regarding the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Munna Prasad Gupta, announced that the post-mortem report will be submitted directly to the court and will not be made public. Gupta clarified that the report will not be released as previously speculated for March 4, 2024, but will instead be presented to judicial authorities.

Gupta stated that the investigation is proceeding efficiently and within the bounds of legal procedures. “The SIT has already received the post-mortem report, but it will be presented directly before the court,” he confirmed. This announcement comes as the investigation into Garg’s death, which has deeply affected the community in Assam and beyond, is gaining momentum.

Ongoing Investigation and International Leads

While updates on the investigation remain closely monitored, Gupta shared that several individuals linked to the case have already appeared before the SIT for questioning, with more expected in the upcoming days. “In the next two days, additional persons will appear before the SIT. There is also a possibility that one individual from Singapore will arrive today,” he noted.

The SIT has requested permission to travel to Singapore to pursue leads related to the investigation. Gupta indicated that investigations are underway in Singapore, with all relevant information already provided to local authorities. “Once formal approval is obtained, our team will visit Singapore for further investigation,” he added.

Regarding the legal framework surrounding the inquiry, Gupta mentioned that individuals currently in 14-day judicial custody cannot be questioned again at this stage, adhering to legal provisions. He reassured the public that the investigation is being conducted transparently and professionally, stating, “All developments will be communicated responsibly as the investigation progresses.”

Public Response and Community Engagement

The emotional impact of Garg’s death has resonated widely, prompting a strong public response. Garg’s wife recently visited the cremation ground in Kamarkuchi village and issued a 10-day deadline for the state government to deliver justice. Her appeal has garnered significant support from both intellectuals and fans of the late singer.

In a related initiative, the SIT plans to hold a meeting with 13 prominent personalities from the state to discuss the ongoing investigation. Those invited include notable figures such as Manoj Kumar Goswami, Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya, and Anuradha Sarma Pujari, among others. This meeting signifies the SIT’s commitment to involving community leaders in the investigative process.

As the investigation continues, the SIT remains focused on piecing together crucial evidence, ensuring that all actions align with due process. The public is advised to stay tuned for further updates as this high-profile case unfolds, reflecting the community’s deep concern for justice and accountability.
