Wenlock Hospital Achieves Milestone with First Angioplasty Procedures

Mangaluru’s Wenlock District Government Hospital has marked a significant milestone by successfully performing its first angioplasty and angiogram procedures on October 1, 2023. This landmark achievement, a first in the hospital’s 175-year history, reflects the institution’s commitment to advancing cardiac care in the region.

The procedures were conducted under the expert guidance of renowned cardiologist Dr. Narasimha Pai from Kasturba Medical College (KMC). He was joined by colleagues Dr. Shodhan, Dr. Vijay, and nursing officer Mary. The successful operation was made possible by the recent establishment of a state-of-the-art cath lab at Wenlock Hospital, which was set up at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

Enhancing Access to Cardiac Care

The newly inaugurated cath lab is fully operational, allowing patients in need of specialized cardiac treatments to receive care from experienced doctors affiliated with KMC. Importantly, the facility offers free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme for patients holding Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards. This initiative aims to ensure that essential medical services are accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.

Wenlock Hospital has committed to providing necessary stents, medications, and other medical equipment, which are crucial for performing these complex procedures. The hospital’s administration emphasized that this is just the beginning. Over time, they plan to integrate additional medical services into the cath lab, further enhancing cardiac care facilities available to the community.
