Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 2.8 Crore in Cachar, One Arrested

Cachar Police have successfully intercepted a significant drug haul, seizing heroin valued at approximately Rs 2.8 crore during a special operation on the evening of March 5, 2024. The operation led to the arrest of one individual, enhancing the ongoing efforts against drug trafficking in the region.

Acting on a credible tip-off, a police team from the Lakhipur police station conducted a stop of a vehicle in Bormamda village, located in the Lakhipur sub-district. Upon searching the car, officers discovered a specially designed chamber that concealed 30 soap cases containing around 416 grams of heroin. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Boktar Hossain Laskar, a resident of Dungreepar, was taken into custody.

Authorities indicated that the contraband had originated in Aizawl and was intended for illegal distribution to various regions. The operation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing drug-related crimes and the efforts to dismantle trafficking networks.

The investigation continues as police gather further information about the supply chain and potential accomplices involved in this case. Local officials are emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in combating drug trafficking and safeguarding the public.
