The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Meghalaya Assembly has confirmed the schedule for the upcoming autumn session in 2025, set to take place from September 8 to September 12. The decision was made during a meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Speaker Thomas A Sangma and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, as well as other legislators and assembly officials.

The five-day session will include three days designated for government business and two days allocated for private members’ business. Following the meeting, Speaker Sangma informed the media, stating, “We had the BAC meeting to finalize the calendar for the upcoming Autumn Session. The meeting went very well and was attended by all members.” He emphasized that the calendar received unanimous approval from the committee.

The Speaker noted that this session will feature a reduced agenda for government business, particularly concerning supplementary demands and grant requests. “Given the limited government business, the committee agreed on a five-day session from Monday to Friday,” Sangma explained.

When asked about the opposition’s satisfaction with the number of sitting days, the Speaker confirmed that there were no objections, stating, “Yes, all members agreed unanimously. There were no objections or resentment from any member.” This consensus reflects a collaborative spirit among the legislators as they prepare to engage in crucial discussions during the session.

The forthcoming autumn session is anticipated to address key issues impacting the region, with a focus on legislative priorities that resonate with the constituents. As Meghalaya continues to navigate its governance challenges, the assembly’s decisions in this session will be closely monitored by the public and stakeholders alike.
