Heavy rainfall and rising river levels have prompted urgent monitoring and relief efforts in flood-affected areas of Haryana. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is actively overseeing the situation following a meeting with deputy commissioners. Due to the escalating conditions, Saini has postponed all interstate engagements and other public events scheduled for the upcoming days, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.

In response to the flooding, districts bordering Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, as well as areas impacted by the Ghaggar and Yamuna rivers, have been placed on high alert. The Narwana branch canal, which channels water from the Bhakra Dam to Haryana, is also under close scrutiny.

Relief Measures Underway

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has established a control room to coordinate rescue and relief operations. Multiple agencies, including the Public Works Department (PWD), the Public Health Engineering Department, and the Agriculture Department, have been instructed to maintain readiness for immediate action.

Officials have emphasized the need for adequate resources, directing the Agriculture Department to ensure a sufficient number of pump sets are available to clear waterlogged fields. Revenue clerks have also been alerted to assist in any necessary operations.

In addition to the command areas of the Yamuna, Tangri, and Somnadi rivers in districts such as Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kaithal, and Karnal, irrigation department personnel have been tasked with re-cleaning drains and channels. This measure aims to prevent waterlogging and facilitate the effective functioning of storm-water systems during this critical period.

As weather conditions continue to evolve, authorities remain vigilant in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in affected regions. The ongoing efforts highlight the importance of preparedness and swift response in mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
