Body of Woman Found in Chandigarh Park Washroom Sparks Investigation
A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon in Chandigarh, where the body of a 30-year-old woman named Diksha was discovered in the women’s washroom of the Rose Garden located in Sector 16. Authorities reported that her throat had been slit, prompting an immediate investigation by the Sector 17 police. A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, was recovered from the scene, along with the victim’s mobile phone and a collection of anti-depressant tablets.
The police have taken the body to GMSH-16 for an autopsy, as they work to piece together the events leading to this incident. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have registered a case against unknown perpetrators. Investigators are currently considering multiple angles in their inquiry, including the possibility of suicide, although the circumstances surrounding the death are highly suspicious.
Diksha, a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, had been living in a rented accommodation in Phase 11, Mohali, for the past year. While she was married, she was reportedly living separately from her husband, who resides in Sarangpur, Chandigarh. The police have made contact with her family, who traveled to Chandigarh later that evening.
The sequence of events leading to the discovery of the body began when a passerby heard screams emanating from the washroom. The individual alerted traffic personnel stationed at the entrance of the park. Upon arrival, a female officer entered the washroom and found Diksha in critical condition. Although she was transported to the hospital, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
According to Dalbir Singh Bhinder, Deputy Superintendent of Police for the central division, a murder case has been formally filed against unknown individuals at the Sector 17 police station. The investigation is ongoing, with police sealing off the area and interviewing witnesses, including park staff and visitors.
Key evidence recovered from the scene includes the knife, a mobile phone, and anti-depressant tablets found in Diksha’s handbag. Additionally, a slip from the Bihar Staff Selection Commission helped confirm her identity. The police’s thorough approach also includes collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene.
The incident has raised alarm in the community, particularly as it follows a series of violent occurrences in local parks. In recent months, several murders have taken place in Chandigarh gardens, including a bludgeoning incident involving a 45-year-old laborer in April 2024, and the murder of a 17-year-old boy earlier in March.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focused on ensuring justice for Diksha and addressing the safety concerns of the community.
