Police Consider Legal Action Against E N Suresh Babu Over Remarks
The police in Palakkad are preparing to seek legal advice regarding a potential case against E N Suresh Babu, the district secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), following his controversial remarks aimed at Shafi Parambil, a Member of Parliament. The decision comes after complaints were lodged by leaders of the Congress Party, including a Congress representative from Alathur and the Palakkad Block Congress Committee.
The police have indicated that no formal action will be taken until they receive appropriate legal guidance, particularly since the complaints were filed by third parties rather than directly by Shafi Parambil. The two filed complaints will be forwarded to the Palakkad Superintendent of Police. Authorities are currently determining the validity of the complaints and assessing whether there is sufficient basis to proceed with a case.
As part of their investigation, police will review video evidence related to the remarks made by Suresh Babu. They have also stated that if necessary, they will take a statement from Shafi Parambil, who has not yet filed a direct complaint.
In response to the lack of immediate action, the Palakkad Block Congress Committee has threatened to escalate their protests if the police do not respond within three days. The contentious remarks made by Suresh Babu included a challenge to Shafi Parambil, demanding the resignation of Congress MLA’s facing allegations of sexual misconduct. He also made derogatory comments insinuating inappropriate behavior, stating that the headmaster would invite attractive individuals to Bengaluru.
The situation highlights the growing tensions within local politics in Kerala, as party members navigate the implications of such remarks and the demand for accountability. The outcome of police inquiries and the potential for legal proceedings will be closely watched by both political allies and opponents in the region.
