Jamie Carragher Critiques Liverpool’s Struggles After Recent Losses
Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender and current pundit, has voiced serious concerns regarding the team’s performance during the early stages of the 2025-26 season. The Premier League champions have suffered consecutive defeats, most recently losing to Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on September 30, 2025. Carragher discussed the situation on CBS Sports, highlighting a noticeable decline in the team’s form compared to the previous season.
The Reds’ strategy appears to have faltered despite significant summer signings, including Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, and Alexander Isak, whose combined transfer fee amounted to £240 million. Carragher noted that Liverpool has become less cohesive defensively, and he has already addressed these issues with head coach Arne Slot.
Liverpool’s defense has struggled, managing only two clean sheets across all competitions this season. They have frequently relied on late goals to secure results, raising questions about their overall stability. With a mini-slump now evident, the team faces a critical match against Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on October 4, 2025.
Adding to their troubles, Liverpool confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the upcoming match due to a knee injury sustained in the game against Galatasaray. Alisson was forced off shortly after the second half began, after a critical save to prevent Victor Osimhen from scoring his second goal. Slot indicated that the injury does not bode well for the Brazilian international, leaving the team with uncertainty in goal.
With Alisson sidelined, Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to make his Premier League debut, stepping into a high-pressure situation against one of the league’s top opponents. Liverpool’s upcoming matches will be pivotal as they seek to reverse their fortunes and regain their championship form.
As the team prepares for this crucial fixture, the performances of both new and existing players will be under scrutiny. Liverpool’s management will be hoping for a swift turnaround to maintain their status as title challengers in a highly competitive league.
